Welcome! I'm Kyle, and I'm the creator of Door's Open. In 2025 my wife and I got a lake house, and quickly discovered that coordinating free weekends with different groups of family and friends, and then coordinating the trips themselves, like what to bring and how to get there, was a surprising amount of work.
I looked for a lightweight shared calendar I could share with my family and friends, but nothing quite fit the bill so I did what anyone who's been in the software industry for a while would do and built it myself. And before I knew it I had added enough features to make it a full coordination app, a way for all my family and friends to see who's coming when, coordinate plans, and keep all the trip details in one place.
Opening the Door
As I talked to others about it, I heard something surprising - this wasn't just a problem for me. Others with lake houses, cabins, or other shared family vacation homes had the same story. Group texts that go on forever. Spreadsheets that nobody updates. The one person who always ends up being the "coordinator" whether they want to or not.
It became clear that this wasn't just my problem, it was something a lot of people needed. So I opened it up to other places, and Door's Open was born.
The goal is simple: make sharing your place easy enough that it actually stays fun. No more coordination headaches, no more endless group texts, no more wondering if the place is free next weekend. Just a straightforward way for your people to stay connected to your place.
